Cole Porter’s 1949 Tony Award-winning KISS ME KATE was one of Broadway’s truly witty musicals. A double-dose battle of the sexes show-within-a-show comedy, as wise and tart as ever. Sam and Bella Spewack’s script incorporates Shakespeare’s ‘Taming of the Shrew’ as a musical version of ‘Shrew’ is going through the agonies of an out-of-town tryout in Baltimore, rehearsals are complicated by an ongoing feud between the two stars, who were married but are now divorced. When the show’s secondary leading man, a compulsive gambler, signs the lead’s name to an IOU, two thugs show up backstage to collect and turn the theatre into comic mayhem with most of the principals at each other’s throats! Porter’s score, coming late in his career, is one of his best. It’s a hit parade of songs with the show business anthem, ‘Another Op’nin, Another Show, and the sizzling ‘Too Darn Hot,’ with live band in the pit. Exceptional staging, exceptional fun and one of the musical theatre stage’s enduring triumphs!
Staged by the Level 5 Musical Theatre Triple Threat students whose previous shows have sold out and attract critical acclaim. Directed by Karen Howard (Carousel, Annie Get Your Gun) with Choreography by Drew Varley (Annie Get Your Gun, Moonlight Club) and Music Direction by Phil Wood (Wonderful World of Dissocia,Grease)

Set sail with Cole Porter’s wonderful, 1934 Tony Award-winning musical comedy ANYTHING GOES. Staged in the midst of the depression this tap-happy, zany classic finds a brassy nightclub singer, a starry-eyed stowaway and Public Enemy No.13 booked on a transatlantic luxury liner bound for romance and hilarity. When the S.S. American heads out to sea, etiquette and convention get tossed out of the portholes. Topping off the fun is Cole Porter’s delightful, delicious, ‘De-Lovely’ first-class score that includes some of musical theatre’s greatest hits, including ‘I Get A Kick Out Of You,’ ‘You’re The Top, Blow Gabriel Blow’ and of course, ‘Anything Goes’, performed by a live band in the pit. Even more exceptional fun, staging and laughter in one musical theatre’s most enduring comedies!
Staged by the Level 5 Musical Theatre Triple Threat programme whose previous shows have sold out and attract critical acclaim.
