Bognor Regis is a small seaside
town on the south coast of England
in the county of West Sussex. It is
situated approximately 70 miles
south west of London. The town
can trace its roots back to when it
was a small fishing village. The

History
Bognor is one of the oldest Saxon
sites on record in West Sussex.
The town is recorded in AD 680 as
Bucgan ora meaning Bucge's
shore. Bucge was one of the few
Saxon women to have a place
named after her. Over the years
this Saxon-landing place became a
small fishing village, and as with
many places the name changed
with time. In 1275 it was recorded
as Buggenore and in 1405 as

Museum
The Museum is run by the Bognor
Regis Local History Society. The
museum opened at its present site
in 2011. Although modest in size
the members of the society have
clearly put a great deal of thought
and hard work into creating a range
of interesting and informative
exhibits. Almost every aspect of
Bognor's history is represented,
from rocks and fossils millions of
years old, the local history from
before the town was founded
through to the present day...
